Scout and Jem |
Likes and Dislikes
What we like about the book was that it had character development like with Scout and Jem. We like the being of the book because it was Interesting and it makes you want to read on. Also it describes each character to let the read who they are in the book. The book was well written and understandable. We like how the author gave us some clues throughout the book how Jem broke his arm. There are still multiple flaws in this still great book. Something we didn’t like was that at the end of the book felt fairly rushed. The ending didn’t describe what was actually happening very well. It made it less interesting But the ending wasn’t really bad but it could have been better. Overall the book was very enjoyable and a good read, and there were many parts that were interesting. |

Background
The book To Kill A Mockingbird was written by Harper Lee and takes place in the 1930s in the fictional Maycomb County, Alabama. The Author, Harper Lee based this book off events that happened in her childhood. Many events were inspired by ones that happened in the real world. One of the events is based off of the Scottsboro Boys Trial, where nine African American boys were falsely accused of raping two white girls. The book is also inspired by other events that happened in the south, in the south racism was still a common sight, and when Jim Crow Laws and the KKK were around. The book is very accurate when it comes to how the characters would talk back in the 1930s and helped set the timeline in place by talking about real world events. |

Rating
To begin with, we give the novel To Kill A Mockingbird a rating of 4 out of 5 "How To Kill A Mockingbird" books. We give this book that rating because the novel had a great way of showing racism in the 1930’s with the African American’s case that was put against him. In the book the author had a great way of showing and explaining in great detail what was going on in the book which was helpful for the reader to understand. The reader was also able to make predictions for the next upcoming chapters and come up with great ideas. The book also had great foreshadowing and symbolism added. With the symbolism, we were able to figure out the meaning behind everything until you could truly connect all the pieces together. Overall, although the book was great, we believe that it could’ve been a bit better.
